I have a Colt SAA barrel. trying to figure if it's a 2d or 3d gen barrel?

I know 2d gen SAA barrel has 20 TPI to the inch. but don't have a thread gauge. any way a dummy can figure out if I have a 20 TPI or 24 TPI ???
without buying a thread gauge. Thanks

Do you have any fine thread taps or bolts? Fine thread 1/2" is 20tpi and fine thread 3/8" is 24tpi. You can use them as a rough thread gage.

if the approximate 10 threads on my SAA barrel measure 1/2 inch, then I have a 20TPI. is that correct ???? If so, then my barrel is a 2d gen.

Yes you have a 20 tpi, the 24 tpi would show 12 in 1/2".
