Is 1/2" roughing endmill too big for my PM25MV?

For some things, a face mill is the right tool.
For true. I can use a face mill and sometimes clean up a workpiece in one light slow pass what would take four slightly faster passes with a 3/8". Often, the finish is better with the face mill than multiple smaller passes.

Pay a little extra and get cobalt roughers, they last longer

Is it better to use a 3/8" roughing end mill compared to a 1/2" endmill on a PM25MV?

Again, how high is up? There's no one-size-fits-all answer in machining; it depends. What material? What depth of cut? What feed and speed? Maybe a 1/2" roughing or a face mill might just as well be the answer.
