I acquired a bunch of Kennametals expanding collets (all different sizes) similar to this one:

But I have no arbors for them.

I contacted Kennametals tech support and they told me the product is too old and no longer supported.

Inside the collets there is a taper but not a smooth one. There is a ridge just below the visible taper at the top of the collet.

So what does the arbor for these collets look like? And where can I buy one?

Yup, so you should send them to me. ;)

I think that would be a pretty simple project to make. I envision an arbor with shoulder the ID of the collet with a threaded bolt hole and a tapered washer matching the taper on the end of the collet.

:you suck::applause:

Your shop made mandrel is a thought. Except the shape of the collet is thus:

Where ^ is the outside edge.

So the top of your drawing is the inside, and the left is the top of the collet?

The top is definitely the inside. But I can only assume the left is the front - since I've never seen an actual mandrel.

I thought you were drawing one side of the collet

I have a set of expanding mandrels, that are much longer than what you are calling your collet. The "arbor" part looks just like a tapered cone at the same basic taper as the inside of the expanding part. Should be straightforward to make a part like that.

There must be better names than collet and arbor for these parts...anybody?
