Lathe Steady

Hi,
I have a chester conquest mini-lathe, I am after a steady for the lathe, what is the best to get, the fixed steady or the moving steady? thanks

IMHO the moving rest for those small lathes is not needed. The full steady rest however is a great addition to any size lathe. It's not often needed but great to have when it is. My vote is for the Full Steady Rest.

I'd agree with Bill. In my 25+ years as a machinist and toolmaker, I've used a steady rest dozens of times, but a travelling steady only once.

I bought both for my mini. Never did use the follow rest.
