Mitutoyo Telescoping Gages 155-903

Which one is missing? As I recall, Mit marks theirs with letter designations. I have a few donor units. You'd be welcome to a spring if I have one.

You'll have to explain how you're going to measure the taper with a telescoping gage.

You definitely got a deal. I don't remember what I paid for my set, but even several years ago, it was not cheap.

I'll try to remember tomorrow to look in the spares box and see if I have one for that size.

Problem will be making sure your measurements are exactly an inch apart.

Rusty's method generally will yield accurate enough data to identify the taper.

Normally, it takes two indicators. One for the travel along the carriage, and one for the cross slide. If you use the cross feed dial, you can use a test indicator to find a zero a ways back in the spindle bore, zero the travel indicator on the carriage, note the dial reading on the cross slide. Move out an inch, dial out until the test indicator is zero again and note the difference in the cross slide dial. That will give you the taper per inch directly. Or per side, depending on the machine.

Same principle on an OD taper.
