need ideas on a grinder

OK that's it... let's make a list and send them e-mails demanding that they stock cool stuff again!!!

If i were you i would keep that just as it is. That looks like a super handy tool to me. You can buy a bench grinder pretty cheap.

I really like the three finger eaters on the inside of the sanding drum!! Lookes like a trip to the E-room waiting to ruin a nice relaxing sunday afternoon. On the lighter side Im all for petitioning Harbour freight to bring back there cool tools, I miss playing with the floor model lathes and mills.:(

I bought a neat grinder at a flea market. Its a Sani-Grinder made for shaping, grinding and polishing orthotic appliances. 1/4 hp 3450 or 1725 rpm and runs in only one direction. Its American made and seems to be built well and runs smoother than my Chinese grinder. I wanted to make a tool grinder out of it but I'm not sure I can. It has a 3" drum sander on one side that is attached with what looks like a #1MT and a squirrel fan on the other side attached on a 1/2 round shaft with a set screw and no flat.
Any ideas on how I could make this into a tool grinder? Should I leave it and use it as is or try to sell it outright as they apparently are very expensive new. I will post a few pics also.

thanks in advance for any input
bedwards

Originally, that was called a Dental Lathe. Years ago, I bought one from a guy for $5.00, just because it had a Baldor motor.

After I fired it up, it ran for a few minutes and smoked. I should have sent it in for a rebuild, but never got around to it.

It came with 2 squirrel cages, originally. For polishing precious gems.

The one I bought, had a tapered brass cone on one end for mounting different grinding/polishing agents.

Here's another type of jewelers lathe:

Similar to mine:
