My ENCO 105-1145 mill has always had incorrectly adjusted spindle bearings. I would like to replace the bearings with a higher grade set. Can anyone lead me to a tutorial on doing this job.

Thank you

Don't know of any tutorials but I'll pass along what I did on my Enco round column mill. Actually my process was rather simple in that after replacing the bearings (tapered roller type) and installing the spindle I adjusted the pre-load nut until I had no vertical movement on my DTI. I backed off the nut to the nearest lock tab slot and tightened the lock nut. Measured the vertical movement at about .001". Started the mill up and ran it for about an hour at different speeds and measured the lower bearing temperature using the highly sophisticated "hand on spindle" method. Everything seemed fine so I made a couple of machining passes with a large end mill on an aluminum block. The surface finish looked great. That was about three years ago and the mill is still chugging along.
