Very interesting. Another of those industry specific nomenclatures that an outsider would have no clue about, “neck finish”? Blows my mind that neck finish is totally standardized yet every silly thing in my world has its own weird different usb plug. Wazzup wit dat?

A good reason for the buttress thread form is that the cap can be installed with simple push. The sloping upper flank allows the cap to distort slightly pushing past the threads while the angle of the bottom flank provides a greaqter resistance to stripping. If the cap was properly oriented, a twist wouldn't be required. This would greatly simplify the packaging machine.
