Somebody needs to calculate the MPG that those things get

Great return on the investment says I!
A testiment to how well humans can build something when they put their mind(s) to it. Not to mention, with technology that long ago would have been considered “obsolete” in the civilian market.
The CH149 Cormorant helicopter I used to fly had two flight data computers in the back, each redundant to the other. They were essentially two 386 computers. Those more or less went obsolete in the mid/late 80’s. I remember using one in my home office. Hit the power key and go make a coffee and it might be ready when you got back. Design engineers told us they do everything they need so no point in “upgrading“ them and throwing the rest of the system into fits.
Sometimes, its better to just “stick with what works”….
