This is a broken pin on my plumbing Ridgid ProPress tool jaw. Thinking about repairing the jaw just because i can (or can't). The pro press tool creates tremendous force so assuming very strong pin. Wondering what type of steel..............

Thank you. I'll report back.

Dowel pin acquired, 2 retaining clip grooves to cut so I ground a hss cut off tool to groove width. Assuming I'm on the right path, now to cut the grooves and find a retaining clip.

I will be surprised if you can cut a groove with HSS. I’ve done it in “hard” 17-4 stainless, but those hardened dowels are another beast entirely. Like my first approach would be an abrasive cutoff wheel if the thickness would be okay. Or maybe a special solid carbide tool.

I'm just going to say thank you a bunch of times just in case I forget one someday.

Dremmel tool with cutoff disk.

You can make a holder from wood for the tool or if you have a flex shaft better.

HF sells pneumatic pencil grinders that fit in a boring bar holder too.

That can easily cut your needed groove.
