Hi all. Pretty close to purchasing a new Lathe, but getting it down to my basement will be a challenge.

I am curious...Has anyone disassembled one into smaller more manageable pieces to move it?

Perfect world - Remove tail stock, apron and cross slide, motor, head stock, splash guard, and then move it? A positive side effect would be a good cleaning opportunity and inspection, and being able to move it with a friend or 2. It has to go down a set of flagstone steps with a 90 bend, and 850 Lbs with no where to set it down and rest would be a hard task.

Thanks!

There is at least one thread where a 1236T was disassembled and moved to a basement.

I would think that it would be very doable, plus as you mentioned it would give you an opportunity to clean the machine and get to know it better.
I would also consider possibly using some boards on the steps would would allow you to slide the heaviest parts down instead of actually carrying them.

here, you can barrow this one for the next time you need one!
