How do I know if the lathe has a power cross slide? How do you engage it if it does?

Most lathes of any quality and size do. Hell, even atlas lathes had a power cross slide.

The are multiple ways they can be engaged. Many lathes have a single power feed lever. It either is pushed up or down, typically having to move it to the side slightly one way, engages either the longitudinal feed or the cross feed

Some lathe have to distinct levers.

Some older lathes with Leadscrews only have a knob to pull out for crossfeed

The smaller craftsman did not, many smaller do not.

The quick thing is look at how many controls

Minimum is hand-wheel to move carriage, a lever that operated half nuts.

Next up will have another lever or first lever goes 2 opposite directions from center neutral, one way operated half nuts, other way engages handwheel for power feed along x, same as hand wheel.

Next up mey be a knob that tightens a clutch or lever that does same or engages a gear that operates the cross slide.

Many commercial lathes have multiple shafts, our L&S Model A has the leads leadscrew, a drive shaft and control among others.

It can do both power cross feed and carriage feed at same time.

Owners manual should say, most are available online but Logan is still in business so you could ask if you can't find one.

Pictures or a model number will help on here.

Picture of the front of the carriage would make all the difference.
