After making a tool to balance my surface grinder wheels I thought I would share what I found.

As you know, you can set your compound on the lathe to very accurate angles. I know of only two ways but I’m sure you know more.

I chose to use two dial indicators to achieve a 3” per foot taper. For me, I moved the saddle exactly one inch and watched, tapped for .125” in angle. Very close to 7 degrees.

Joe Pie had a video that showed him making these precision angle plates to use on the mill or compound.
You just use your DRO to move to the required points.
I checked the accuracy of the plate I made by the dial indicator method. Over 1 inch, I was within .001”. That impressed me anyway.
