Question on magnetic dro scales, getting ready to order.

Getting ready to order the DRO'a for a lathe & mill and see you can get different length of scales up to a point without extra cost. Since they could be cut down and shortened, wouldn't you just want to order the longest length for all and cut off what you don't need. Later if you have an issue with one getting damaged you could use the pieces you cut off (if long enough)??
 
Good Question. I do not know, but DRO PROS is quick to point out the orientation needs to be correct between scale and reader.

They also say that there will be no issues with contamination or corruption of the magnetic scale, unlike the glass units.

There's a number of threads on this.
I personally did not feel like cutting a scale was worth it.
 
I added an EL-400 with the mag scales from dro pro to my lathe and its been great. Cutting the scales was very easy I wouldn’t hesitate if it makes for a custom fit.
