Questions On Grinding Wheels On Craigs List

These wheels are for sale locally and the price looks good. Can anyone tell me if these wheels are okay for general shop use. I have a Harig 6X12 surface grinder. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can give them the "knock test", rap them with a bit of wood. If they ring they are good. If they thunk, no good.

It would be worth a look. $100 for all that's there is a big discount.

Give them the "ping" test. If they ring, they are good. I'd try to counter offer say $75 and see if they go for it. They are 46 grit and J5 bond which is good for tool steel and general purpose grinding on harden steels. Occasional use on soft steels won't hurt. Go for it!

From what I've seen, normal grinding wheels are 1/2" in width. Make sure your wheel hub can take the extra width, for instance the hub on my DoAll 6x12 grinder can't.
