I usually close and lock my doors when I leave -but I have a "Safety Pitbull" inside the house that causes guys with lock-picking tools to re-think which house they should burglarize... The "Safety Pitbull" is pretty unique in that she allows frolicking children and elderly neighbors with advanced dementia to come and go unharmed yet, knows to threaten, chase and maul anyone whose pheromones wreak of ill-intent.

Oh, I'm told that sprinkling a few spent shell casings around the entry-points has a deterring effect too...

My deterrent is the overwhelming piles of stuff to the ceiling! Any unwelcomed visitor could easily fall into the piles and never be seen again.
