I use my disk/belt sander for shaping metal, wood, plastic ends of fingers etc. The finer grit belts I find (180 and higher) all have a big overlap bump at the seam. I forget where I got them as it has been years. The coarser grits are thicker and the bump is less of a problem on those usually. Would someone recommend a source/brand of 6x48" belts that don't have this bump or that has very little bump?

Klingspor is a very good German brand. But I use what ever Abbotsford Tool has, as they cater to the cabinet and millwork trade. What ever, they are smooth running. I found anything finer than 80 grit didn't work worth a dam. I used my sander to flatten Stanley planes, I just love their green castings. One plane, one belt. I have to factor that in when I buy an old $5 plane.

Red label abrasives is my go-to belt manufacturer.

Even the very best will be crap to you if you don't choose wisely. Aluminum Oxide is fine for wood, but needs replacing very quickly if used on metal. I use resin bonded Zirconuim belts for metal.

3m ceramic and Klingspor ceramic will not disappoint.
