In another thread I mentioned that I had just bought an older restoration of a Reed 105 vise off eBay. Well, it arrived yesterday in an oversized shredded box with no padding, I was amazed that it withstood the trip to my house undamaged. I could find no fault with it other than a bent handle, which was cleverly non-apparent in the eBay photos (see first 2 photos below).
I pulled the spindle and positioned it so that the handle was cross-wise in my Harbor Freight 20 ton press, and the spindle rested on a cart in front of the press. In five minutes or so the handle was straight. All's well that ends well.
