Thread Repair

I don't know if anyone has posted something on this before. (Type 'thread repair' into a search on a forum and see how many times 'thread' appears.) One of the members on our classic motorcycle forum posted this and I think it is very well presented.

I have not used this type to date. Heli-coil inserts I have used several times.

Those stake in place thread repair inserts are a lifesaver for sure. Just be careful that when working in aluminum or a casting that driving the pins in place may distort or crack the parent metal if it is close enough to the edge. This is most common on cast aluminum.
