In the pic below;

The gray lower box had a two drawer,Cman 9" deep top box. It sat on the gray,11? gauge "riser" I made back 10 or so years ago.

Basically,I found this oddball sized top box ,then snagged a modest lower box. Painted the lower to match the upper and then stuffed BP tooling in it. Served very well. Even had a "drop" of maple BB top as a work surface. Fast fwd...

Did a "job" for wifeypoo and said the pay would be a new tool box. So snagged a 16" deep $200 upper Cman on sale.

The issue was; 16" sitting on a 9" shelf. So added the pieces in the pic below to accommodate the deeper box. It worked out peachy. Rustled up a cpl leftover full extension BB drawer slides so the top slides in and out. Just thought y'all might enjoy the pics. That phase is done,already got a bunch of tooling moved in.....

Will post another pic of the next idea in a following post.Screenshot_20220414-055320_Gallery.jpg

Here's what I want to make as a "hang on" side unit...

Stole this pic from the web. It's for race car trailers. I'll make it fit the stuff here on the enclosed shelf depth,but really like the fold down shelf one opened.

Thanks for sharing. I quite like the adaption and slide-out shelf. It’ll be interesting to see your side shelf; that’s a good idea.

That is cool. Being vertically challenged and every shop I ever worked in having few benches my main box has always grown horizontal than vertical. DIY tamale cart :) But since it’s gone stationary it has fallen prey to unorganized but useful junk :( I needed a HD handle to move the beast so I fabbed a combo spray can storage and handle for the other end. Both were made in ‘82 so 40yrs of service and rust. There are other box spaces too like a box underneath for manuals welding helmet etc and a shallow one on the back for my A/C gauges.

When in high school my dad found somewhere the coolest little swing out small parts trays. It was cheap plastic with like 6 trays that had an aluminum pipe that ran through them vertically on one end with plastic mounts. The trays could be folded against the toolbox out of the way and individually swung out to “open” them. Great for small parts or in the case of the last wage slave tour I made a HD steel copy for holding the common hardware I used. I could fan them out to reveal whatever was needed. Sadly I didn’t take it with me when I bailed and just took my hideaway t handle box I made. To replace it with another has been on my todo list for years. With this above idea making one for spray cans has been added to the list!
