What does it mean when a machine has a "war board tag" from WWII?

Does it mean that the machine is somehow inferior in quality or that less stringent standards were followed?

Just curious.

Thanks,

Nelson

If its kept going this long the quality couldn't have been too bad. :)

Most of the equipment where i work came from government surplus dating back to WWII, that have tags stating that (I forget the exact wording) they are part of the "war reserve" and may be used for defense production in case of war or national emergency.

Here is such a tag on a Van Norman mill from 1942.
