What is this used for ?

How well does the insert hold up? Good looking tool.

It is rock solid and very sharp, it took some abuse from me yesterday and it has still kept its edge etc.
I'm sure I watched a video of one being used, either on youtube or the Glanze website, can't remember, but they put it through its paces, which is what made me buy one.

I believe that is a grooving tool rather than a parting tool. There should be a number stamped on the side of it. I certainly can be used as a parting tool, with the obvious limits you have mentioned.

And you really shouldn't need that tool. After you loosen the screw, the insert should slip out. That tool comes with the fixed style partoff blade.

Hi Tony, it looks like it might be a while before I have to try removing it anyway, as it seems to be one hard insert!
I am very new to machining though, so I can't compare it to anything else right now, though I have chipped a couple of lathe tool inserts, which seem very inferior to the Glanze insert!
