2017 POTD Thread Archive

I remember having a lot of trouble with those big old tanks. Had the 5 gals. on a '79 LowRider that I toured the US on for several years starting in '80. Needed the extra millage. I had the threaded holes break out too. That's where I learned to weld gas tanks without blowing myself up!
Yep I loved my 98 Roadking I toured the country
Also out west mostly . I bought my Roadking new .
It was a long waiting list I had to wait over a year to get . I put 46000. Miles on it in Five years .
The day after I got it payed off my son got killed
On his bike .
That took the wind out of my sail .
I let it set one year then I sold it cheap .
I had more fun on that bike .
I loved riding solo best

Took off for a 2 week vacation to Florida from Kansas in '79 on the LowRider. Never got to Florida but ended up going 81,000 miles in 2 1/2 years. Accumulated enough enough stories for a lifetime in that one excursion.
I've had motorcycles since I was 14. Now have a Ducati Multistrada and at 68 still put on a lot of miles. Planning on a motorcycle tour of New Zealand after I get a new hip (next week) and since my back has healed nicely from Feb. surgery.
Sorry for getting off subject.

I need more practice.
But I made plenty of mistakes .
I am trying to find something to blame it on .
My wife is not her she is at work so I can't
Blame her.
It must be my cheap welding machine
Lincoln AC 225 Amp.
Or the Rods I bought them at Home Depot that it
Looked like they was playing football with my box of rods .
The rods come out of the box with the flux busted off both ends of the rods 75 percent of the rods in the box had flux cracked or broke . I would have to burn
1" to 1-1/2" off the ends of the rods before I could
Use that rod.
Could be my back yep I am old and I can blame it on my age .

An hour stripping out the garbage from a small electrical control box and laying out parts and sketching, it was a water pressure control and scrapped at work - as it's just right to bolt to the wall for the contactors / caps / meters / socket outlets / switches etc. for my soon-to-be phase convertor I intercepted it (and its twin brother), this time *before* it went in the skip, going to have to cut out the front door panel and make another, but saved a few Local Currency Units :)

Hay, that welding looks better than any I have done in a while. Looks good to me as long as it holds

My lathe is pretty much done! Still have a few covers to make and add the digital readout and machine light. I have time for that. Trying to get geared up to rework some parts for my client on some of the products I've designed. It's those things that come back and bit you in the a$$ that get missed and overlooked in the design process. Anyways, here's pictures of a chunk20170613_174125.jpg 20170613_174130.jpg 20170613_174136.jpg of metal and a few shaving made today on the lathe. Enjoy! Ken
