A Question About The Care Of Metal Files

I appreciate the follow up. These are nice files but pricey. I am fighting rust in my shop anyway

KYJim- visit your local shoe store- they toss out the dessicant packets from shoe boxes all day long- I "Donated" starbucks cards to the staff and was rewarded with about 5 shoeboxes full of the packets.

-Toss them on a cookie sheet at WARM or 200 for about 20-30 min in the oven on a Saturday and then put the ones you don't use in a couple of gallon Ziploc freezer bags or similar container with a seal- just add one or two a week to the drawers you keep your files in and when the baggie is empty- time to heat up the stove again.

Rinse and repeat as needed... easier than you think...

Wow! I have received a lot of helpful info from my post. Thank you!

use it on band saw too.

Thank you all for your helpful ideas. I was able to get all three files back to like new condition. I would still be interested in more detail about the wax response. Is it car wax, or bee wax or something exotic.A very productive afternoon. I was truly amazed at how much came out of those tiny grooves.
