Arbor Support Outer Brace Swapability

Thanks pjb! Been looking to view your mill. Any links to pics? Was also wondering what serial / year yours is - as I'm sure you can imagine suddenly, certain parts no longer fit across the board on all versions.

Some pictures on this thread... mine is a 1943. Serial #6458.

Thanks pjb! Right up there at the top of VN's supplied with actual accessories! I must wonder what the dividing head gearbox was used for with no mention of the divider itself.

That stuff came out of a shop that had 2 VN 22M's, but the guy had never run them and had lots of pieces. I got a second slotter, and the lead box, but not many gears.

There are many among us that really want to find a 'lead box'! The lot I bought early last year had a lead box in it. The only part I wanted really. As for the gears: they are the same as for the B&S no2 Divider Except a slightly larger center hole is needed 1" vs 1.2" & the 44 tooth gear in the B&S set isn't needed at all.

Now for the slotter. As far as I know, they are all the same except some accept a larger 5/8" tool vs 1/2". Of course the right adapter for the mill it is to be used with plays a large part in whether it will work with a given mill. Still working out the details on that. Mine has the 5/8" tool hole, was made for a 22 with the 3 bolt mount - but came with a shop made adapter that allows it to fit my 4 bolt style 24. That same adapter also allows me to use my hi-speed universal sub-head (also from a 22). Now, among the items waiting on restoration, I have that same hi-speed except it has the correct 4 bolt mount for my mill. In time, I'll be testing my theories on swap-ability. I need to see if the mount, as seen in the pic below, will do for the slotter as well.

Yes I have 3 50NMTB-to-spline drivers for slotters and/or subheads. I know where a subhead is locally nearby, pending negotiation.
I'd have to check what size toobits they take.

pjb,
I'd love to see your pics of those spline drivers. As is, my spline driver must be shop made. It has a 1.25" shaft that mates to an appropriate NMTB50 tool holder. Had to modify the tool holder to fit within the adapter.

slotters I have and splined drivers. Tool bits for both slotters are 5/8" diameter.

Hi,
So I saw a VN22 compatible sub-head today, and I was expecting it to have a 1" splined driver, but it was larger. I couldn't measure it in situ though. Is the standard for these sub-heads 1.25" splined?

Unfortunately there was no driver for it there, though there was also an extra NMTB50-to-1" splined driver like (of which I already have 3).
