Clausing model 5907

I like those 5900 series lathes ! :encourage: They're getting harder to come by these days .

I just finished up installing a headstock drain line. I hated pulling the plug and having it pee down the side. 1/8 inch pipe thread.

Just finished the mount for the touch DRO Lenovo Tab M10 plus. Nice and sturdy. I was lucky as it had been drilled for my light mount. 5/16×18 holes.

Well, until all the parts arrive I'm just going to continue deep cleaning and painting so that it's mostly one colr or shade of Grey. If anyone is thinking of adding a DRO to their machine check out the goodies from MDRO in England. Higher quality then Electronica that DRO PROS sells I think. Yuri has one of the scales and is trying it out. And less money than the Electronica brand too.

I received all the parts from M dro in England and have started on the installation. I also purchased the universal lathe installation kit. Had to modify it to work but it is saving me time.
I ran into a problem with my crossfeed. I had missed installing the slide stop which is a 1/8 x 3/4 roll pin. Without this stop the slide can move to the rear so far that the crew drops out of the nut. When this happens lots of luck getting said screw started into that nut. I ended up removing the saddle and carefully drilling the nut so that it came out in 2 pieces. New nut was 65 on ebay. While this was apart I had Tom White who is a good friend and a Full Time machinst check out everything. He showed me where the slide had been bored out before and a bushing installed. It need it again, so I have a new slide coming from Clausing. Bare slide price is 273 or so. Then later on I will rebuild my old one as as a spare.
Here are a few pictures showing the slide and you can see the bushing. Clausing has no screw covers or stud for the compound. My stud is still within specs but just barely so a new one is being made. Clausing emailed me a print of it and of the srew cover.
Today I finished draining the apron oil flushed it out and added fresh oil. Installed the saddle back on the apron and installed new wiper belts. I'll take more pictures tomorrow. 9

That little missing roll pin caused all kinds of issues. If you have a 4900, 5900 or 6900 series lathe see if your roll pin is in place or you could end up doing what I did.

The UPS man was Santa today. My order from Clausing arrived a day early with all 4 items I had ordered. I was surprised to see that Clausing had modified the carriage slide. Now you can change out compound bolt without removing the slide. I have enclosed a picture that shows the 2 slides to compare.
Tomorrow I'll install the oil chain.
