with my recent RF 30 purchase I also got some tooling...including many R8 Collets. However this one was an odd ball. I first thought it was an R8 ER collet holder but the size of the collet does not seem to match the known dimensions of ER collets as found here....https://littlemachineshop.com/info/er_collet_sizes.php.... too long for an ER 40 but too narrow for an ER 25

that was my first guess. but ER 32 should be 33mm diameter and 40mm long

not 32, but maybe er20...
edit: nope not an ER20.. too long. And in looking at the collet enlarged, it doesn't have the correct slotting... there should be slots halfway from top to bottom and bottom to top.
that appears to have full length slots

What does the nut look like?

There are a bunch of different collets out there that look like ER but aren’t.

Have you asked the guy you got the machine from? Might be the quickest way to find out.

Hey John..

Good suggestion...I'll reach out to the seller....may also stop by Rowe machinery and talk to Bob. Here's a photo of the R8 chuck, collet and nut.

That’s a helpful chart. I wasn’t aware there were so many types. But my dimensions don’t match up to any there either…the mystery deepens!

I don't believe you have taken the dimensions from the correct locations in the first pic.
you were short on the length and the width.
if you notice all the specs on multiple sites for multiple collets you have not done what they have for start/stop points.

Agree....That seems the most likely explanation. I've been using these references and will recheck: https://www.cncsparetools.com/new/C...to-distinguish-the-collet-model-and-size.html, https://littlemachineshop.com/info/er_collet_sizes.php
