PM1440-2SM VFD conversion

I find it much easier to make a smaller magnet ring and embed the magnets into the ring with a little bit of red Loctite. I use smaller neodymium magnets, below is a recent one I did with 12 magnets for a Tachulator that I converted to use a hall magnetic sensor.

Even if a a DRO did have an output to turn off the spindle power, the stopping position would change based on speed, feed, cutting parameters, etc. You are also assuming that there is a VFD or control system that is designed to integrate with the DRO. One should consider something like the Rocket ELS system which has positional control with a DRO readout. There are also tuning parameters that control movement to achieve a specific stopping position as opposed to just a trigger point. Eventually the price point of an ELS type of system with intergrated DRO will be less and may make its way into lathes as a cheaper alternative to mechanical gearboxes.
