How did you do the "square" side of the hole for the tap to sit it? small diameter end-mill then file?

I got up to the 5/8” hole I wanted, checked size of my square file & just decided to file the entire “90”. Took around 1-1.5 hours to get it where it sits. Good experience/practice with a file (I need it, trust me).
