import axa wedge tool post are they all the same???

Hi
I have a AXA Aloris tool post made by Kingston eng, made in Hull in the UK.
I use Hess tool holders, I got them from All Industrial Tool Supply from the USA.
The set works well on my Denford Viceroy lathe 11x24.
The Hess tool holders are imported but i do not know were from, but they look good
& work well. Is Hess one of the good tool holders, very good for the price

The Hess tool holders are made in China. They are the only ones I have seen that made copies of the oversized holders.

Hi
Yes the holders i have are oversized, 5/8" Hess 250-102 XL, i got 4 from the USA for £58 inc postage,
in the uk, 4 would of cost me £80 + postage & was the small ones only 1/2".
All Industrial Tool Supply was very good to deal with.
The postage can be the killer, buying from the US.

Thanks guys I used a 20 percent off and got the phase 2 from enco should be here by tomorrow :))

A thought on dealers. I know first hand that Tools4cheap will make problems right. I haven't used their tool posts though.

I've been using the Shars version. I probably have about 15 or so of them. They aren't bad...they do have their quirks with tolerances, but manageable. I replaced all the soft factory M8 set screws with quality versions for nice improvement. I have an older Toolmex brand tool post, which is US made and no longer manufactured. I have several holders that came with the set and some Dorian. Much nicer quality for sure. Repeat wise, I don't see much of a difference...the china versions work.

The best quality I've seen on the import QCTPs have been of the "Phase II" brand. They are not quite as inexpensive as some offerings but quality has been better than others I've seen. Here's a link to the set on Enco's site: http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=890-9636&PMPXNO=4882165&PARTPG=INLMK32

People are going to jump all over me for saying this but the s h a r s tool post is exactly the same manufacturer as the phase 2 at a fraction of the cost. For the last 4 years I have been researching manufacturers in China finding the best ones making contacts even friends with some of the sales people and I guarantee you that a lot of the things that are labeled as slightly higher quality from China are made at the same factories and stamp with different names. A face two if you take it apart lay the parts next to a shars that has been taken apart you will not be able to find one single difference.

I come from Manufacturing in the life science sector and I have had purchasing agents helping me research these companies and getting contact names to the point where I can get any insert for pennies on the dollar. The good companies will not sell you crap items like sometimes you can find on banggood. Not that all of them good stuff is crap but a lot of crappy stuff is also sold there. There are crap Chinese companies but they're disappearing. Middle class is being formed in China as a matter of fact 4 million people in one year have gone from poverty to the middle class because of all these products that are coming out and they're becoming better and better and better products. They all care about their products and their quality once they get established.

I feel terrible that I cannot share my contact information with everyone. But I've been told flat out that I will lose the ability to purchase through these companies if I divulge my sources.

Please tell us as much more as you can about Chinese manufacturing for the USA market... All I know about it is from my own purchases and what I have read.

I've done some research and some buying myself. This is just my personal observation. China is capable of manufacturing high quality equipment, but they will make it to whatever price point you specify. You can buy the same product at a super low price (poor quality), a slightly higher price (better quality), and a "premium" price (best quality). This appears to be the same product manufactured by factories next door, or across the street from each other. If you pay a higher price, you get the premium product. If you're only interested in the lowest price, you'll get a product that looks the same, but doesn't have the same level of quality. The specs aren't as tight, and the QC isn't as good. Just my $.02
