A friend of mine sent me some pics of a Regal 13" he has for sale. I'm going to look at it in the next day or two, but I would like to get some information beforehand. I currently have a 10" Logan/Wards lathe. I would eventually like to have something in the 13" range, but I'm not really in a hurry. Here are a few of my concerns/questions based on my research so far:
- Spindle speed - it looks like top speed is 500 rpm. This seems like it would be pretty limiting for turning small diameters or using carbide tooling. How do you Regal owners deal with that. Is there a good way to increase speed with different motor/pulley combinations?
- Spindle size - I've only been able to find limited info on this. It appears that this lathe is from the era when they had threaded spindles, but I'm not sure. The pics I've seen of other Regals make the spindle look pretty small. What is the size of the through hole? Can it accept a 5c collet adapter?
