I picked up some tooling for $3 a pound today. Vast majority of it will be easily handled with my ER40 or R8 collets, but there are a few that are pretty large in diameter, like 1-3/16 diameter. What have you done to hold this type of tooling? Or maybe it's not possible?

Depends on how much mill you have. The power and rigidity requirements of a big end mill like that are going to be pretty high. My 2 HP RF-31 has never seen a mill over 1/2" (mfg. spec is 3/4", don't know under what conditions). I doubt anything with a R8 spindle could make use of that for slot milling. Maybe it could be used for facing, if you can hold the end mill. Where did you get $3/lb tooling? Online?

I went to HGR outside Cleveland. They buy out companies of their stuff. With all the stuff they had they only had one small tote and it had all kinds of stuff.

By the way, I have a PM950 knee mill.

Okay, that's a 3 HP mill, so you can probably run 1" mills with an R8 end mill holder. That 1-3/16 could have the shank ground down to 1" (common size), so that's an easy option if you have the ability to do so.

R 8 end mill holders go up to 2" .

Did you find some extras?

HGR is an awesome place. If you ever wanted to do a HM lunch meetup, I am 15 minutes down the road from there!
