Sad little box from a gents shop that had passed- mostly old junk and tidbits... until I hit the bottom... Now I have a mystery!

I bought the box for the cabinet locks and hinges/clasps... but underneath was a big stack of gears.

Some have double keyways, some single... some are Boston Gear cast iron, some Zamak- a few home-made aluminum as well... In the box was a 100 and 127 gear pressed together as well...

Any thoughts? Change gears for South Bend or Rockwell?

Thanks for looking and as always- hope this finds folks safe well and at peace! Enjoy the weekend!

Change gears, and metric transposing gears. Potentially of value to someone. If that 127 tooth gear is 10 3/4" in diameter, I'll PM you my address for quick disposal. Otherwise, give us a bore size and diameter of a few of the gears to help narrow down the application.

Thanks Randy- I will post more tonight about the gears- #teeth/bore/dia... If I can not use the larger gearing- then I have no issue passing it along. I see you're in Chesapeake- I can just drive it down- Used to work at the locks and I get over to Northwest River to walk a fair bit as well!

Thanks- Be safe and as always- have a great day!

Hey, didn't even notice that. I'm in Chesapeake barely. If I get up on the wrong side of bed I'm in Suffolk. Bowers Hill / Churchland / Harborview.

The odds are much against the gears being anything I can use. My needed 127 would be nearly 11" in diameter.

Some of those look like gears from the old gear driven Bridgeport power feed.

Thats no problem- Im out to the Shoulders Hill area and 17 corridor a lot for work- love the area... Ill let you know later on tonight the gear diameter.

The zamak gears with two key slots are Atlas change gears for certain.

Great- appreciate the nod there Pontiac!

Thanks Hwele- This guy had a lot of things- and from the looks of it could fix about anything he wanted- I actually wish I had gotten all his cutters- but another fellow was willing to pay WAAAAY more than I can afford at this point in my journey!

Cleaning out more boxes- we shall see what else we can find!

Diameters and tooth counts will tell us the interchangeability. The other critical measurements are the bore size, and the width of the gears. For example, south bend junior gears are 16 pitch with a width of 1/2" (heavy 10, too). That means a 127 tooth gear for those would have a diameter of just over 8".

A 9/10k South bend has a pitch of 18, which will be a bit smaller, at just over 7 1/16". Any dimensions will tell us what they could be used on, not necessarily what they WERE used on. If you find an original in the mix, it will probably have a stamped number. Likely they are all for an atlas, but we should never assume.

Thanks Joe- tried to get a few things done yesterday and wound up getting tied up for today as well- so I appreciate the tip- and I measured and took more pics... So read on (PIC HEAVY)
