Does anyone know if either the BXA or AXA Master toolset from Precision Matthews will work with the QCTP on the G0776? I was going to order the T10295 toolset from Grizzly but they seem to be out of stock.

The G0776 is a 13x40 lathe and would be a BXA QCTP, the holders and toolsets (5/8") are pretty much interchangeable size wise. On the QCTP there is usually a preference for a wedge shape locking mechanism as opposed to piston, the latter will pull down the holder when locking. The indexable T10295 toolset is a BXA, so yes they are interchangeable. The holders do vary a bit and some for oversized tooling can have some issues with the cutter height.

The majority of BXA toolholders are interchangeable with one another, so pretty much any well known brand should work for you.
The only issue for you is the t-nut for mounting the tool post used on the Griz may be different than the one supplied by PM. If
you're not set on the PM, another alternative is the stuff sold by Allindustrial.com. I don't have their tool post, but their tool holders
are cheap and well made and can be recommended. They have an eBay store.

Great explanation for a beginner like me. Thank you for taking time to detail out the difference. From everything I have found so far the PM master toolset seems like a great starter set to begin with.

I'm brand new to this and I'm open to any and all recommendations.

Basically, there are (expensive) American made tool posts and there are (less expensive) Chinese tool posts.
Those are your choices. The tool post and holder set that I bought for my current lathe is a Phase II, which works
fine, but the parts were pretty crudely machined, and at least now they seem overpriced. Whether their quality improved
when the price went up I don't know. I have no experience with PM, though there are a bunch of PM owners around here
that could probably give you some feedback. You could post a question on the PM sub-forum in you want. If you
do a search, there are a bunch of posts about various tool post brands, though some stand out for decent quality at
a reasonable price. The All Industrial stuff I mentioned above is one of them.

I'm reading through the BXA Tool Post you referenced, lots of great info on that thread. Also pulled up the All Industrial website to look around. Prices seem very reasonable. Time to do some more reading and than spend some money on tool holders and tooling. Thanks again.

HAHA, they work, and more money to send you
