A gun enthusiast friend bought some aftermarket parts for his 1911 & had another friend install them, he brought the parts to me to mill for fitment. This part was a bit of a challenge for holding but I figured it out.

Wondering why he didnt buy the right parts?

If you dont want to bob the frame, but want the beavertail, buy the beavertail made to do that. Same price as one that requires frame bobbing.

Unless he got the parts for free...and you modified them for free...I am missing the point?

I have no idea as to what you just said, a friend brought me these parts, told me what to do & I did it. The were aftermarket parts and needed tweeking to fit is all I know. And yes I did it for free.

It looks, and I may be wrong, like instead of filing away at the frame, he made a cut out in the grip safety. Kinda different, Im curious why he did it that way.

If you have to modify anything on a firearm, always modify the cheapest part first if possible. That's one of the basics they taught us in Gunsmith school (Colorado School Of Trades in Lakewood, CO).

Thats what we were trained to do at the Pennsylvania Gunsmithing School, but when I built my 1911 it was unanimous that you roll the frame as they stick way way out when they are brand new, and that that was what was done on all factory guns and custom guns as it allowed fast and easy replacement of damaged parts (like grip safeties)
