Lol. Every time I remember the Nova, I remember that marketing night mare it caused when they tried to sell it in Mexico. The name Nova sounds too much like the spanish sentence "No va" which literally means "It doesn't go."
Some years back Chevrolet and Toyota were doing a project car together for import to the USA.

Toyota came up with a name for the car they were wild about.

They called it the "Toylet"

I would have loved to been in that meeting to hear was Chevy's response was.

There use to be companies that evaluated potential product names to make sure they didn't have negative or offensive meanings in other countries.
No doubt there have been far too many bean counter type executives that felt that this was not a necessary expense.

We use to have a Middle East bakery here in town that was named "The PITA KING". Now most people know what Pita bread is, but the number of people that came into that bakery laughing at the name use to tick off the owner to no end. The business didn't last.
