Close, $1.53 a litre, 136 litre tank in the Ford still had 21 litres. $5.79 /gallon US $6.95 / good old Imperial gallon, was $.50 per gallon when I started driving. lol

Some of us can remember $.19 a gallon during the "gas wars" of the 1960's and early 70's. I owned a couple Standard oil gas stations in the 70's and was selling regular for $.50 a gallon. In those days gas was seen as a leader to get customers in for service and repair work. At $.50 a gallon the stations were grossing $.02. Selling 60,000 gallons a month netted the owner a whole $1,200.00. The monthly rent was $1,500.00

At one time Illinois allowed retailers to sell gasoline at whatever the price was Plus Tax. As an example, they would advertise a gallon of gas for $.39 plus tax. Add in the $.55 local, state, and federal tax and the final price was actually $.94 per gallon
