316 SS Threading Rod 5/8"-18 Both ends RH & LH

The dia. is .625 and you drill a .375 hole X 1" t0 2" deep then get your 316 threaded rod long enough for your 5" plus the 1" or 2" inches which you turn down one end to .372 x the 1" or 2". This should all be reasonably concentric. Drill a approx. #43 hole @ the bottom of the .372 hole Then silver solder the 2 pieces together. It will never rust and unless you have a really big sailboat it will never come apart in fact you'll bend or break it at another point before your silver solder gives.

I already moved the lathe. The only reason I haven't completed the "real" part is I just ordered the material yesterday! Well that and when I get a round tuit. I did the short sample just to verify that I and my lathe were capable before spending the money for the material.
