4 Jaw Self Centering Chuck Question

if you do use oil, even a thick viscous one, zip tie a plastic bag around the chuck and spin it a high speed for a few minutes before use. Otherwise you'll get a nice oil strip over the floor walls and ceiling :)

My old Craftsman lathe came with an (equally old, I'm thinking) 4 jaw self-indexing chuck. It seems to work well, though I've used it mostly for drilling square pen blanks (have not done much metal turning yet). It does hold (more-or-less) square stock nicely.

Oil stripe, sign of a working machinist, especially the left shoulder stain.
