9" Hendey issues. How do you convert a Hendey motor /generator Drive to variable DC

Gents,

got a 50's Hendey 9" toolroom lathe, with the motor/generator drive.
how do i convert it to Variable speed DC drive. motor/generator controls
are shot, as previous owner stored it in a shed near the ocean.
machine itself is OK as it was bathed in LPS 3 upon storage.

Since you are starting with a DC motor, I would Google ''Dart Controls'' and see what they have to offer. I suspect that in a 9 in lathe you are looking at 1HP or less. If you're lucky, maybe the motor has a data tag on it.
