I have a jet lathe and when I cut 60 degree threads I have to set my compound to 59 1/2 degrees. Now I want to cut acme threads the videos and such say to set the compound to 14 1/2 degrees ( this would be for USA machines) can someone tell me what the compound SHOULD be set to? Thanks Rick

Note: I will also post this in the jet enco section

75 1/2 if I understand the question correctly.

A standard thread has an angle of 60 degrees. Therefore you would set the compound to 30 (29 1/2) degrees. The angle measurement on the compound can be marked two different ways. When your tool bit is going straight in the angle may read 0 or 90 degrees if it 0 then you would set it to 29 1/2. If it is 90 then I believe it should be set to 60 1/2 degrees

An acme thread is 29 degrees. Half of that is 14.1/2. 90-14 1/2=76 1/2. A trapezoid thread has an angle of 30 degrees

Thanks, now it makes sense
