I met the owner of a local STEM educational company that does robotics, programming, etc classes for kids when they were looking for space for summer programs at my church. I mentioned I do machining and asked if they ever needed someone to make parts for them, if so, I am looking to do some side jobs. Well, he called this afternoon asking if I could help them, they are making some sort of robot for this week’s class and ran into a snag. They had a steering motor they needed to modify and their attempts were not working.

He brought the motor over and they needed a portion of the actuator screw between the tape machined with flats and a couple holes for a clamp they will be fabricating. The only guidelines were this is what we would like, so do your best. Luckily it was an easy to machine material, I was afraid it was going to be hardened and I might need to use my bench grinder and do it by hand. I machined a flat on each side down to the root diameter and two equally spaced holes for the screws they will use for their clamp. Pretty simple project for anyone here, but this will lead to more. He works with all the local high school programs, and is letting them know I am available. I’ll be dropping it off at their class tomorrow so I can see what this is going into.
