I was able to get an Albrecht 0-1/3 chuck at a good price but have a question. It has no taper and I thought it was a MT0 but it isnt. I am trying to get the corrrect taper for it. On the top of the chuck its marked "30 J1" which leads me to believe its a Jacobs 1 taper.

Does anyone know if I am correct on that? Also not sure what the "30" indicates.

Note I wanted to install this on an 8MM watchmakers lathe so I am also looking for a collet that has an 8MM draw to Jacobs 1.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks
bob

Yes, J1 is Jacobs taper. I just replaced the arbor on one of my Albrechts this weekend, I used a Jacobs #3 and the stamp mark said J3, so you're on the right track.

Are you sure it’s marked “0-1/3” and not “0-1/8”? Maybe a poor stamping on the “8” makes it appear like a “3”? Anyway, here’s what I found for the 30 0-1/8 J1 Albrecht. I’m guessing (maybe) the “30” relates to 3mm?

J1 is definitely the taper. It is a 0-1/8" chuck. I believe the 30 is simply their (Albrecht) model number. Their 1/8" chuck is available in both J0 and J1 taper.

It is clearly 1/8. I was typing faster than my brain.

David Best for the win! He is correct, after looking at all the model numbers they do coincide with their metric capacity, plus a zero. For example, a model 130 has a 13mm capacity.

Thanks everyone. Now I am trying to find a JT1 with an 8mm lathe draw on the other end. For a watchmakers lathe.
