Finally got my lathe cleaned up and working well enough to start playing around with it. Needed a good cleaning!! Thanks for the help.

Hi Bill: I have one too, not a bad machine- I've made a lot of parts with it
I installed a variable speed DC motor which makes it much nicer to use
The collar/backgear mechanism is convenient but is a high-wear point; periodic greasing is advised

Thanks for the information. I like the idea of using a DC motor.
