ARC 170 ,play in cross-feed and compound in a Atlas 10100.
My first solution was to coat the inside of the cross feed nut, with solder and chase it with the carriage slide screw. (worked for awhile).
Second attempt was to install a small brass wedge in the cross-feed nut, that would engage the thread of the acme slide screw, when
the attaching screw was tightened. This has worked, almost eliminating backlash. Last attempt was to extend the length of the cross-slide
and make a larger cross-feed nut with a small ball bearing to ride on the acme thread.(not to bottom out). This has worked out for the last 20 years.
