We have a few forums where posts are moderated. They tend to be low volume, specific forums, like this one, or low volume, high risk - like the Trading Post.
Low activity specific forums become difficult to manage if people post something that is off-topic. You would be surprised at how many posts would just get ignored or land in the wrong spot if the forum wasn't moderated. For example, when some members see "Help" in this sub-forum title, they post something about getting help on their lathe or setting up their shop. There are other specific sub-forums for that.
Low activity high risk forums, like the Trading Post, are heavily moderated so as to root out scammers and spammers, for obvious reasons.
Moderation is a very useful tool in helping the staff keep things neat, tidy and safe for members on the site.
