Hello all, I got a line on a well maintained Brown and sharp No.5 turret lathe. Guy is asking a fair price and may come down. I don’t know enough about these lathes to know if it would serve me well or if I should pass. Thanks in advance for any input

Never seen a B & S No. 5 turret lathe. Must be rare, as in: hard to find / get parts?

What will you be doing with it?

Turret lathes were mostly used in production and lacking a proper tailstock can be limited. Also, more likely to have significant wear for the same reason.

Of course you probably already know this but five years from now when someone does a search on the subject they may not.

Pictures?

John

I had thought that you may have meant W & S originally. That is a large machine and I have run them. It looks like it has some tooling, but I was trying to recall the chucking method. Seems that it took different sizes of collet pads which you will need. Do you have enough electrical power to run it?
