Back when there were REAL men

I do not think that age had power feed . But lucky had a two speed hand wheel.
Just think of turning hand wheels for hours.

It doesn't appear that way, there's the remnants of a line shaft above and behind. If you mean feeding and advancing, I don't see an apron, so maybe just a crossfeed and compound.
The apron came later. It just gear and just had hand crank on square shaft. It was very basic lathe and power feed and apron came later.

Just to clear things up this lathe was powered by a lineshaft belt system. Maybe a steam engine as the power unit. The lathe carriage/apron is moved by the handcrank visible in picture. Which looking there are two square drives. Guessing one for X and one for Y.

There was a steam plant on site. The big chimney is still there in one of the photos. There are still the remains of some passenger cars on the site.
The spindle was steam power but power feed was human power.
The early lathes used a chains not a rake.
They like Buffalo belts over cow belts.

They also would put power feed on back side too.
But we do have a photo of backside.
