my safe old table saw, last evening, did a kick-back on me,

a piece of wood flew back and hit my left hand.

blood everywhere. (typing singlehanded)

my left thumb lost its fingernail.

first and second got hit on the outside corner, some of the nail is gone
and the side of the end was shredded,

the third (ring) finger was cut a little and some small part of the nail
is gone

pinkie survived unhurt.

i called the squad, spent 5 hours in the emergency room, now have four
well bandaged fingers.

rest assured i wont be working in the shop for a while.

sorry about your accident---it's tough to get hurt by our tools. hope your hand heals nice.
is your car a 53 champion? I had a 53 back in 1967-69. I really liked that Stude ---wish I still had it.

Yikes!
Glad you escaped with all digits still attached.
I had a nasty kickback incident when I was cutting some square aluminum tube.
As I got about halfway through it kicked back and threw the piece into the wall behind me.
Scared the crap out of me.

You guys with kick back accidents, do you know why they happened? Do you know how to prevent them in the future? Knowing these things makes you safe and may prevent others from the same!

Heart rate increased just reading about this. glad you are (mostly) OK and not missing any non-repairable parts. I had a neighbor that lost most/all of a fingernail about 6 months ago. Still growing back.

I had a similar incident years ago ripping a 2x2 piece of hardwood. It kicked back and went thru my garage door. I now stand to the left of the blade no matter what I cut. Close call

I had a kick accident in high school and was lucky- bruised but lucky. A most dangerous woodworking machine
Glad you escaped with only moderate injuries
