Mistakes were made, valuable lessons learned.
But these jaws are coming out pretty nice.
Made from A2.
We will see how hardening them goes here soon.

I really like smooth, hard jaws. I can see where some small v-groves could be good holding small parts. Are you sending them out for heat treatment?
 
I plan to heat treat in house. We will see how that goes. Hopefully the foil bags show up tomorrow.

I was kicking around smooth but I think it would not have worked out for how we use them.
Added a bolt head holding groove, a round stock holding vee and the small grooves.
I think they will work well for us but only time will tell.

Hardening after action report.
Thermocouple needs to be wired the right way to read properly.... Fixed that while warm and that was not fun.
Purging the foil packs with argon worked well... However you need to squeeze the bulk of the puffyness out of the bags prior to inflating with heat!
They seem to be reasonably hard, a file just shines them up. I will check if someone nearby has a hardness tester.
Tempering at 400.
